Upscale resale has come to Forest Hills. High-end consignment chain Second Time Around has opened its newest store on Austin Avenue, making this location the 32nd in the company's repertoire. In addition to offering labels such as Louis Vuitton, Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs, the store is also offering an in-home consignment concierge service for premium high-end items only.
This Forest Hills store is the newest addition to Second Time Around's locations. Taking consignment upscale, Second Time Around carries the most coveted designer brands and items at a fraction of their original retail value. From high-end handbags to designer jewelry to premium denim, each store has a unique selection of upscale consignment. With 50,000 active consignors across the country, Second Time Around constantly curates their exclusive inventory, bringing customers seasonal, current pieces in new and like-new condition. With this approach, stepping into one of the stores promises to never be the same experience twice.
Recently featured as the focus of Bravo's reality television show Fashion Hunters, Second Time Around gave an inside look at the world of upscale consignment from the perspective of one of its stores in New York City. The show followed four associates from the Mott Street store in Nolita as they searched the high-end closets of Manhattan's elite. Far from the land of thrift, these four fashionistas navigated the city in search of the best designer pieces to fill the racks of their store.
Based in New England, Second Time Around has established a national presence with 31 stores across 11 states in some of the country's hottest style districts. Since opening its doors in 1973, the company has grown into a national brand, bringing high-end items at budget-friendly prices to closets everywhere, both in stores and online.
To consign items, clients call a STA location near them and schedule an appointment. Items are priced at 65%-70% off their original retail value and are placed on sale for a 90-day period, wherein consignors receive 40% of the final selling price. Articles of clothing must be of a current style, seasonally appropriate and generally no older than two years. In addition articles should be in new or like-new condition and freshly dry-cleaned or laundered.
If a consignor has at least 50 items for consignment that are premier designer labels only, they can also inquire about an in-home consignment appointment. In this type of appointment, a stylist will come to the consignor's home to assess the items and take those that meet the consignment criteria back to the store. The consignor can track the items online and will be able to see when the items sell. The consignor will first have a phone consultation with a Second Time Around stylist, then STA will schedule an in-home appointment with a stylist.
