FashioniSTA File: Golden Globes 2012

This year’s Golden Globe Awards was all about bold statements and futuristic flair. From silver metallic moments - that we saw on Nicole Richie and Lea Michele - to art deco details - as seen on Selma Hayek and Claire Danes - statement accents were everywhere. Even those who donned nude gowns for the occasion ramped up the drama with oversized skirts (Charlize Theron and Piper Perabo) and large-scale jewelry (Heidi Klum). And of course fringe hit the red carpet yet again, this time taking on celebs such as Emma Stone and Busy Phillips.
Ashley’s Picks
Best Dressed: Freida Pinto in a teal, textured Prada. I’ll admit that I like when actresses go more timeless than trendy, and I think this gown had the best of both worlds. The classic shape was slightly modernized with the fuller silhouette at the bottom and the smaller accents, such as the belt and her stunning Chopard lattice choker. The texture was the perfect detail to make her stand out in the best way possible.
Worst Dressed: Lea Michele in a silver Marchesa concoction. Some people have been fawning over this risky move, and I’m hoping that those people get their eyes check out soon. Instead of a smart risk, this is too over-the-top, and Lea stirs up memories of Cher in Bob Mackie.
Rookie of the Night: Shailene Woodley’s Marchesa dress was an unbeatable mix of age-appropriateness and gorgeous detail. The structured bodice with the illusion neckline was a shining example of how to dress a young Hollywood actress.
Most Improved: Nicole Kidman in Versace redeemed herself a million times over from her missteps last awards season (remember the white Dior)? From the studs to the body-hugging silhouette, this dress proved why Versace is such a fashion powerhouse.
Kim’s Picks
Best Dressed: My absolute two favorites of the night were Salma Hayek in Gucci and Kate Winslet in Jenny Packham. Hayek may get panned for her risky art-deco choice, but I thought she pulled it off beautifully while Winslet proved that Old Hollywood is always in style… her touches of gold were flawless and her clutch was a perfect match.
Worst Dressed: Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace — seriously, how dated! I am a firm believer that one can never be tooooo matchy-matchy, but Jolie’s hideous outfit tonight has shaken that belief to its core. The worst, however — hands-down — is Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier. That print should never hit the red carpet, nor should it ever grace a dress so formal. You took a risk, Gellar, and it failed.
Rookie of the Night: Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen — I may not particularly like her dress, but I’ll certainly remember it. Bold lines make for a bold choice, and I’m not sure if she pulled it off or not. But it certainly caught my eye! I’d also like to nod my hat to Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci… very fitting for her character, and very well put together.
Most Improved: Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann… Swinton arrived last year in a questionable Jil Sander get-up that was part dress / part boardroom, but this year she made some major strides. She clearly enjoys going for a slightly androgynous look and this year is no exception. However, she softens the blow with a fabulously wild hairdo and beautiful jewelry by Fred Leighton. Baby steps, Swinton, but you’re getting there.

Best Dressed: Claire Danes – I have a love hate relationship with Claire Danes. Yesterday it was love. Her J. Mendel dress, coupled with simple jewelry, was nothing short of perfection, and the cut out back? Swoon.
Worst Dressed: Zooey Deschanel in Prada is my pick for worst dressed, not because of the dress necessarily, but the hair. Usually I’m all for glam throwback looks especially when it comes to hairstyles, but this custom-made bold dress deserves a simple updo.
Rookie of the Night: While I think she always looks great at award shows, my rookie of the Golden globes Goes to Sarah Hyland of Modern Family in Dolce & Gabbana. I’m all about the lace! Sarah was able to pull off an elegant strapless dress while maintain her youthful charm.
Most Improved: Laura Dern – Known for her effortlessly hippy-ish style, she kicked it up a notch this year! Her emerald sparkle Andrew Gn dress was just the right amount of classy and sexy, she looked radiant when accepting her award.

FashioniSTA File: Grammy Awards 2011

The FashioniSTAs are taking on the Grammy Awards! For the most extreme awards show of the season, we don’t expect anything less than rock star perfection. Ride along with us as we break down who we thought rocked the red carpet like a catwalk, and who looked like a cat attacked her outfit.
Double Take 
Showing up on the red carpet in the same dress as someone else is a fashion nightmare. But showing up in practically something that someone else has worn is almost as bad. Julianne Hough – who may or may not be the most gorgeous girl on the face of this planet – wore a printed Catherine Malandrino dress, the exact one that Lea Michele wore to last year’s SAG Awards. The resemblance wasn’t crystal clear at first, since Lea’s was an emerald green and Julianne’s was a pastel print. However, this cut of this dress is so stunning, that we’re not surprised that more than one person wanted to get in on it. Who wore it better? This is a toss-up, Julianne looked like a breath of summertime air in February, but in photos, the solid color of Lea Michele’s seemed to work better.
We also had déjà vu when we saw Kim Kardashian in a bronze, draped Kaufman Franco. Flashback to Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes in 2009, and you’d swear that they were both wearing that Marchesa dress. While Kim’s hair and makeup were bombshell-worthy, the chunky heel didn’t work well with the dress – which may or may not have been a little tight. Who wore it better? That better be hypothetical, because in this race, J. Lo is queen.
Speaking of metallic numbers, is it just us or did everyone and their mother wear a gold, sparkly dress? Between Kim Kardashian, Leanne Rimes in Reem Acra, and Heidi Klum in Julien McDonald, there was enough gold to stimulate the US economy. Throw in Selena Gomez in J. Mendel, and you almost need sunglasses. Putting Leann’s personal life aside, Heidi Klum still trumps the country singer with her ‘70s-inspired gown, which looked like it flowed against her body. But Selena puts up quite the fight, making her almost unanimously the best-dressed rookie at this show.
We Sound Off on the Outrageous
The Grammys wouldn’t be complete without a couple of looks that could double as Halloween costumes (and we all thought Julie Bowen’s SAG pantsuit was a fashion risk). Here are the top four ladies that brought the bizarre, and our fashion verdicts:
1. Nicki Minaj – There is so much going on here, between the head-to-toe Givenchy leopard and the Bride of Frankenstein wig, we’ll say this, she’s never boring. But at an awards show where anything can happen, this is the place to work the extreme.
Verdict: Fierce, meow! But next time, lose the wig.
2. Katy Perry – Her Armani Privé ensemble, which apparently featured some of the most expensive material money can buy, gave us Katy on fashion steroids. Known for her sequined sweetheart busts, the angel wings really brought it to the edge.
Verdict: You are not a Victoria’s Secret Angel, save this for your next costume party.
3. Rihanna – This white Jean Paul Gaultier made her look alarmingly sweet for being practically naked.
Verdict: Hung jury. Half of us think she looked fashion forward and fab, the other half want to flush her toilet-paper-inspired dress.
4. Lady Gaga – The most outrageous entrance award definitely goes to her. But when the egg opened, the outfit underneath was a little…blah. You know Lady Gaga’s running out of ensembles when she has to resort to a cocoon entrance.
Verdict: Keep the whole embryo entrance if you want, but birth yourself a new outfit idea.

Marisa
Best Dressed: This was a tough one for me because – to be honest – I wasn’t blown away by anyone. At least not in a good way… However, if you were to twist my arm, I will give “Best Dressed” to Ciara. Her Emilio Pucci dress was a gorgeous combination of colors for her skin tone – royal blue and shocking white – and the fit was perfection even though it had an intricate cut-out top. Additionally, her accessories and make-up were spot on.
Worst Dressed: Rihanna – hands down. I was really excited to see what she would wear because her fashion choices are always bold and exciting. But then she showed up wrapped in white tinsel… The dress was allegedly by Jean Paul Gaultier, but I am pretty sure there is a picture of my sister and I decorating the Christmas tree from when I was 6, where I am dressed in the same attire. Only I looked better because I was wearing clothes underneath it. Yikes.
On the Fence: I really wanted to like Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine’s Givenchy dress, but the fit was atrocious. The dress was incredibly unique and the pale nude tones complimented her pale skin and red hair perfectly, but the bust was too big and – as a result – the look was incredibly unflattering. I give her ( and her stylist) an A+ for effort, but an F for execution. All that it needed was a trip to the tailor! And I bet Givenchy would have been happy to do it for free since it would have made their dress look a million times better…
Rookie of the Year: Selena Gomez looked beautiful! The J. Mendel dress was simple; yet elegant, the metallic silver-ish, gold color was perfect for an awards show, the cut was sexy, but not vulgar (perfect for her age) and the accessories were right on. Well done! If she dresses like that every time she walks a red carpet, then she has a bright future ahead of her!
Ashley
Best Dressed: Katy Perry’s grandmother in Armani Privée. Age-appropriate and bedazzled? Nailed it! If pressed, Heidi Klum in Julien McDonald could be considered a runner-up (the gold, ’70s draping was incredible on her), but this supermodel has nothing on 90-year-old fabulous.
Worst Dressed: Miley Cyrus in Roberto Cavalli. Not only is this dress too old for her, but it didn’t fit her properly, which was evident when viewing her top region from the side. The hair is also completely inappropriate, but at least it covered up the potential wardrobe malfunction in the chest area.
On the Fence: Nicole Kidman in Jean Paul Gaultier. If she had worn this to any of the other award shows that she attended this year, it would have looked fantastic. But it’s a little too Hollywood glamorous, which doesn’t necessarily work at the Grammys. However, her hair made me want to be a better person.
Rookie of the Year: I have the biggest girl crush on Selena Gomez, so I was over the moon that she showed up looking amazing. Everything about this look is perfect, and I thought I couldn’t love her any more.

Best Dressed: Justin Beiber, DIBS! Sorry ladies I’m the youngest one out of the bunch he’s all mine. I wasn’t impressed with anyone at the Grammys, once I saw Justin Beiber he reminded me Justin Timberlake, looks aside, fashion wise. I loved the white Dolce and Gabbana suit with a black bow tie and handkerchief and fresh pair of white sneakers. I thought it was trendy, chic, and a right choice for the youngster. Now only if he would marry me in a few years…sigh.
Worst Dressed: Paramore’s Hayley Williams in a Jeremy Scott black sheer pink tutu ensemble, Epic fail. Her fire engine red hair doesn’t help either. It was sheer on her belly which made it look trashy and I could see her ugly tattoo through the opaque tights.
On the Fence: Florence Welch in Givenchy Haute Couture swan gown. She brought back Bjork infamous dress back from the dead on a lighter note it looked a lot better on Florence than Bjork. I thought it was pretty but it through me off a little. I wasn’t sure if the swan print is really needed maybe if it was a white print be rather than a swan maybe it would appeal to me better. Again, on the fence.
Rookie Winner: Selena Gomez in a gold metallic J. Mendel Dress. It fit her to a T, I thought she looked fantastic I’ve always been 50-50 with her and the choices she makes at shows but she wowed me, and I think it’s also age appropriate.
Kim
Best Dressed: Julianne Hough in Maladrino — the textures were so complimentary (the print, the cut, the ruffles, the colors) and she looked absolutely radiant. I also really liked Nicole Kidman in Jean Paul Gaul Gaultier — she was widely panned for this ensemble, but I think the colors were incredible on her and it was a really nice change to see her this year in something soft rather than severe. I was also taken aback by Margaret Cho — the cut was actually flattering, and the color allowed her tattoos to be her accessories, and she ended up looking classy rather than trashy.
Worst Dressed: Aleesia — you know it’s bad when the Jersey Shore stars are better dressed than you. Lea Michele also fumbled in Emilio Pucci — so fierce, and I don’t mean that in a Tyra Banks kind of way. Runners-Up include Bonnie McKee, Hayley Williams, Willow Smith, and Ricky Martin. Red Carpet Cringes!
On the Fence: Jenna Ushkowitz in Pamela Dennis. This could have gone so very wrong, and I can’t decide if this is one of those times or if it actually works. Esperanza Spalding also took a huge risk with an outfit that had waaaaaaay too much going on… but it definitely grew on me! Same for Eva Longoria in Ashi — a lotta ruffle, a lotta leg. But in the end… not too shabby??
Rookie of the Year: I don’t even know who this Paz lady is (I had to look her up) but I haven’t seen her in any standout red carpet galleries before this. I thought perhaps the color was a bit too washout for all that white going on below (i.e. her legs), but I love love love this dress, and those shoes! Such a nice contrast against her long locks, too. I give you a B for “Breakout Attire.”

FashioniSTA File: SAG Awards 2011

Awards season continues! We’re taking a quick break from shopping our hearts out at the big STA sale to bring you the dish on the SAG Awards red carpet. Here we break down the top trends of the night, from the grand slams to the strikeouts (can you tell we just bought baseball tickets?). This awards show had a surprising number of impeccably dressed celebs (even Helena Bonham Carter didn’t look terrible), but since this is one of the more liberal events, there are always the few who take it to the extreme. Check out who made the cut and whose dress needs to be cut, straight from The FashioniSTAs.
White Hot
No one loves wearing summer-appropriate clothing during the winter months quite like the citizens of Los Angeles. It’s almost as if they’re rubbing it in our faces that we’re cold and they’re not. That aside, some of these white gowns didn’t quite make the cut. Eva Longoria (far left) showed up in a Georges Hobeika dress with a draped, plunging neckline that almost looked like she was the victim of a Halloween TP-ing incident. Amy Adams (center right) also donned this summer shade, going with a Herve L. Leroux gown that would have been gorgeous if it had properly fit her. The worst of the bunch? Winona Ryder (center left) in an actual wedding gown by Alberta Ferretti. Self-explanatory.
However, the shining (white) light of this trend was Natalie Portman (far right) in a gorgeous crystal-trimmed, strapless Azzaro gown. Our only complaint is that the fit across her baby bump was for someone not pregnant.
Orange You Glad
I feel like everywhere I turned someone was showing up in a nude-colored dress, from basically the entire female ensemble of Glee to Kate Mara to Hilary Swank. This seemed to be the season of nude shades, but at this awards show, a few were bold enough to take it a step further and go orange. Sarah Hyland (below, left)– one of our favorite new fashionistas – looked sleek, if not a little too old, in her Max Mara knotted-waist dress. One thing that maybe didn’t work with this ensemble? The oddly mismatched arm jewelry, which kept her looking a little less put together than she did at the Golden Globes. Jayma Mays (below, right) also went with this hue, looking dewy and fresh in a Jenny Packham number. She made it look effortlessly perfect with just the right amount of metallic embellishment, and her hair color only made the outfit better.
Not-So-Basic Black
In order to wear black on the red carpet and not get completely ignored, your dress has to have an additional wow-factor. Judging from the Malandrino plunging neckline pantsuit, Julie Bowen (far left)decided to go in a different direction with black and lose the dress part altogether. I’m not sure if she was channeling J.Lo, but she hit the red carpet in style, going sleek and modern with the most perfect makeup. Amber Riley (far right) in Anne Barge also rocked the awards show with her full-on diva look. If this is any indication of her star power, hold on to your seat. She’d give anyone a run for their money in this number – which was originally a wedding dress, although it’s so awards-show-fabulous, you’d never be able to tell. Christina Hendricks (center) also went with black in a long-sleeved, sparkly L’Wren Scott number, which at first glance looks as if it had the potential to be a great departure from the black norm. But taking a closer look, the color is too severe on her pale skin, and the shoes definitely didn’t help.
Print Crazy
If you want to go experimental at any of the awards shows, the SAG Awards is definitely the way to go. The girls who took the print plunge definitely deserve to be in an elite fashion category, from Mila Kunis (below, left) in a perfectly-styled Alexander McQueen that solidified her as this season’s top fashionista, to Hailee Steinfeld worthy of a place in the young Hollywood hall of fame in a striped Prada. The list goes on with January Jones in an antique gold, lace-print Carolina Herrera, Julia Stiles (below, right) in a crisp, ombré Monique Lhuillier, and Claire Danes (below, center) in a belted, floral Louis Vuitton.

Best Dressed: January Jones
Best Dressed: January Jones in Carolina Herrera (right). She was the complete package and had some serious “wow” factor. I loved the intricate gold pattern on black background and the fit – slightly loose, conservative t-shirt shape on top, fitted through the hips and thighs and then ending in a mermaid flare – was dramatic. She accented the outfit with gold Roger Vivier pumps, simple black stud earrings and an old-Hollywood style side-swept up-do. Perfection!
Worst Dressed: Christina Hendricks in L’Wren Scott. This dress had some potential. However, there were just too many execution issues and unfortunately the look fell short. I don’t think that the fit was great and – as a result – her curves made her look heavy instead of voluptuous. Also, the combination of the full-length sleeves, the heavy-handed eyeliner and the fact that the dress was black was way too much for her fair skin. She looked almost gothic and, to be honest, a bit scary.
Rookie of the Year: Julie Bowen in Catherine Malandrino. I was very impressed with the Modern Family actor’s sleek, modern look. She sported a well-tailored, black jumper with a plunging halter neckline. Her accessories included a simple clutch and Neil Lane diamonds and her hair was worn down - sleek and straight – to complement her attire. This was a great choice for the SAG Awards which is traditionally a more casual event and it gave her a chance to showcase her beauty and style – a distinct departure from the role of suburban mom that she plays on her award-winning show.

Rookie of the Year: Ariel Winter
Best Dressed: Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. I LOVE this whole throwback to the ‘70s, and this sleek silhouette is so much more flattering than the 800 fussy ruffles she wore to the Golden Globes. The whole look was effortlessly gorgeous with just the right amount of sparkle for a cast nominee.
Worst Dressed: Lauren Vélez from Dexter. She’s not one of the most photographed actresses, and this time that was probably a blessing for her. Not only do I not understand this whole bedazzled flower halter top (and I always understand bedazzling), but I think I had the same skirt in the 7th grade from the Gap.
On-the-Fence: Julie Bowen in Malandrino. The pantsuit was definitely a fashion risk, whether it paid off depends on if you saw it on television or in print. But what I do know is that her sleek hair and minimalist jewelry/makeup definitely pushes her more on the fashion “do” side of things.
Rookie of the Year: Ariel Winter (right) in Luisa Beccaria. This white, tea-length dress was perfect on her, the whole dress just worked between the texture, the slight ruffle at the collar and the black belt. She looked age-appropriate and fashion-forward, the great makings of a future fashionista.
Biggest Comeback: Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. FINALLY, she looked great! We knew she had fashion potential, and now we can actually see it. The color, the texture, the hair, jewelry, makeup…it all works! *Standing ovation*

Worst Dressed: Jennifer Lawrence
Best Dressed: Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen Resort Collection. She looked absolutely radiant in a strapless cut. The bare shoulder flattered her wavy hair, and the splashes of red and train dazzled the already red carpet. I loved her smoky eyes, it definitely was an “all eyes on her” moment. The small thin belt accentuated her already small waist. She was a show stopper in my eyes; and I’m all about that. Kudos Kunis, kudos.
Worst Dressed: Jennifer Lawrence (right) in Oscar de la Renta. Can someone please explain to me what color pink this is? If it was a nail polish it would be named NIPP (NEVER IN PUBLIC PINK). Besides the fact that I’m not a fan of neon colors especially pink, yikes, there’s too much going on. The straps look like a bad mummy wrap. I think it’s hypocritical to have a slit all the way up your thigh then pair it up with a dainty little girl bow belt.
On-The-Fence: Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci. A lot of people like the black lace Nina Ricci gown but I’m not sure about it. Black wasn’t a trend from what I saw nor do I think I’ve seen Nicole Kidman in a lot of black, and I see why. The black lace gown with jeweled incrusted neckline had a gothic appeal and I found it ugly, plain and simple.

Best Dressed: Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen. Easy, breezy, and beautiful.
On-the-Fence: Hailee Steinfeld
Worst Dressed: Oh, where do I begin?? Let’s start with Angie Harmon in Monique Lhuillier — I have yet to see a feathered dress that doesn’t look like it belongs on the JC Penney’s 1998 Prom Rack. The two ladies who most drastically caught my eye, however, were Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci and Kate Mara in Hervé Leger by Max Azria. Whaaaaaat was going on there? Kidman’s ensemble choice was just confusing (and where on earth did that necklace come from? What about that dress said “this neckline really needs some floral stuff”?) and Mara looked downright uncomfortable. Was that dress too small? Or did you just realize too late that you look terrible?
On-the-Fence: Hailee Steinfeld (right) in Prada — the fit was great and the colors were bold, but I’m not sure if I should congratulate you on being eye-catching or warn you against that kind of future statement. Plus, Julie Bowen in Maladrino — gutsy move on the pantsuit. It looked a little too casual for my taste, but I appreciate the confidence.
Rookie of the Year: Jayma Mays in Jenny Packham. Great cut and the shoes are fab, but it’s a rookie mistake to wear such a washout shade. I’ve got my eye on you, Mays. Also, Mindy Kaling in Tadashi Shoji looked great – hey, Kim Kardashian, THIS is how you rock a Roman look!
Biggest Comeback: Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. I haven’t seen her look this radiant since her sexy January 2009 Vanity Fair cover.

Golden Globes Fashion Trends Breakdown

The Golden Globes marks the first big award show of the new year, making it part of the season of fashion holiness. This year a plethora of celebs graced the red carpet, some in outfits that made me want to be a better fashionista, others in ones that looked like a child put it together…in the dark. Check out the hot trends that were on hand that evening, and then stay tuned for our FashioniSTA Police Files as we break it out down who we think wore it best and who needs a fashion detox in a confined style boot camp.
Sunrise, Sunset
A big theme of the Golden Globes fashion parade was an array of orange, pink and red shades. From Emma Stone looking very California girl in a sherbet-colored Calvin Klein t-shirt dress to Sofia Vergara in a red/fuchsia Vera Wang corset gown, the spectrum was bright with stars who at least tried to push the envelope. January Jones was also a lady in red, wearing a fringed and very revealing Versace number, who ended up bearing a striking resemblence to Wonder Woman in some of her photos. On the pink side of things, Lea Michele donned a cotton candy pink, ruffled Oscar de la Renta – which bore a striking resemblance to the other ruffle dresses she wears, Julianne Moore attempted a one-shoulder look in and Natalie Portman styled her baby bump with a Viktor & Rolf pink silk draped gown, with a large, red rose protruding from her chest as a bonus – did anyone else think of Beauty and Beast? I mean, who doesn’t love a good Disney allusion?
Emerald City
Having four big-name actresses wear a usually absent color makes people go gaga for green, which would explain why pretty much every media outlet is making us believe that every dress down the red carpet was this shade. Catherine Zeta-Jones (in Monique Lhuillier), Angelina Jolie (in Versace), Mila Kunis (in Vera Wang), and Elizabeth Moss (in Donna Karan) all showed up wearing this emerald jewel-tone, which is a nice change from the usually-muted tones that make it down the carpet. This was a great way to bring a little holiday spirit into the new year, and while I had been missing my Christmas tree, I think I can safely say I’ve gotten my evergreen fix. Big stars in gorgeous gowns? Sounds like a pretty fabulous Christmas gift to me.
Vintage Frocks
Going vintage is always a great way to stay classic on the red carpet, but go too far, and it can look like an old-school nightmare. From Scarlett Johansson in Elie Saab to Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham to Leighton Meester in Burberry, there was no shortage of flowy, embellished dresses, with the occasional retro-print thrown in there - see Michelle Williams in Valentino or Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs. Maybe it’s just fashionista delirium, but some of these looked like they belonged in the back of a closet at a retirement home. There’s nothing FashioniSTAs love more than a good vintage (or vintage-looking) find, but we could be on the fence about some of these looks, whether or not it’s just the styling that went awry.
Glitteratti
No awards show would be complete without celebs in sequins. Olivia Wilde wore a Marchesa black tulle number that looked like it could single-handedly restore the American economy with all that gold sprinkled on it, combined with the serious sparkle she had on her shoes. Amber Riley (in Oliver Tolentino), Anne Hathaway (in Armani), and Carrie Underwood (in Badgley Mischka) also went with sequined gowns, providing a little extra sparkle on the red carpet. Traveling Back in Time with Old Hollywood Glamour

The days of Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly and Sophie Loren are alive as classic Hollywood glamour takes the stage in Spring 2010. Carolina Herrera was one designer to take the late 1950’s era to a fabulous extreme with a collection boasting sweetheart necklines, hourglass cuts and rich colors fit for a queen. The Red Carpet also dazzled millions of onlookers with this classic look as actresses traveled back in time to capture the days when awards shows were just beginning.
So, your wondering how you pull this off at the coffee shop down the street or for a casual night out? Easy. There are many different pieces to try but the first thing to look for is color. Black, red and white. Though these colors may be overlooked, they epitomize the old days (and I am not just saying this because everything was in black and white). Some pieces to watch for are long sleeved wrap dresses, patternless corset tops, shoulder baring blouses, menswear (cardigans, trousers, oxford shoes, button-downs), pastel cardigans, one piece romper suits which are quite prevalent these days and high-waisted shorts and pants.
Don’t forget the accessories! Big broaches and clip-on earrings are a must. Also, decorative hairpieces and small patterned scarves (worn as a headband or neck tie) are the perfect way to polish off any look you may be going for.
