The Golden Globes to Your Closet
Jan 17th
Yes, we all saw the overwhelmingly unanimous decision that Lupita Nyong’o was the best dressed at the 2014 Golden Globes. But dear fashion magazines, how is that supposed to help us? I’m sorry but we are not about to try to pull off a fire engine red cape. We’re looking to these celebrities not just to adore their glamorous wardrobes, but for style inspiration! Luckily many other stars among the best dressed flaunted styles that we can’t wait to try. Here are our favorite looks from the 2014 Golden Globes to inspire our every day style.
1. Olivia Wilde
Designer: Gucci Premiere
Inspiration: Emerald Green
With a color like this, we just can’t take our eyes off her. So why not try to incorporate such an eye-catching color into your wardrobe? We love the idea of adding a pop of emerald green to your go-to looks. To add a little zest to your casual every day wear, how about shimmering emerald heels? Or glittering emerald nails anyone?
2. Kate Beckinsale
Designer: Zuhair Murad
Inspiration: Beaded Texture
There is just something so glamorous about beaded texturing. Kate’s beaded gunmetal gown turned a simple metallic dress into a spectacular work of art. We love this look so much that we are determined to add more beaded accents to our wardrobe. Whether it be a touch of beads in a headband or a beaded skirt, the texture give the piece a one-of-a-kind, hand made feeling.
3. Naomi Watts
Designer: Tom Ford
Inspiration: White Gold
While many fear light hues will wash them out, Naomi shone brilliantly in her embroidered, white gold gown. We can’t get enough of this color for its ability to add some shine to winter outfits without going all out holiday sparkle. The elegance of white gold is perfect for a blouse, for a sophisticated look without being stuffy. On a more casual note, we love this white gold shimmer skirt with a laid back T-shirt. It’s just enough to sparkle without wearing sequins. White gold’s versatility makes it a great piece to wear when dressing up or down.
4. Amy Adams
Designer: Valentino Couture
Inspiration: Minimalism
Talk about a statement! We are drooling over Amy’s plunging neckline and the ruby red color. In fact, the outfit is so stunning that she felt no need to over accessorize. We’ll take a page from Amy’s book and say, let your outfit do the talking! While it’s fun to dress up a simple outfit with bold accessories, the opposite can be just as appealing. When it comes to a bold style, own it! Don’t let accessories distract from your sleek outfit. Like Amy, rather than sport bold jewelry, rock a bold color (and we love the idea of red and maroon)! We love this eye opening idea. Sometimes less is more.

Black Friday Countdown: 1 DAY!
Nov 28th
Well tomorrow is the big day! I’m happy to say my prep has gone amazingly well, but still smoothing out some of the details. I’ve been scoping out the stores and stalking (admittedly) the STA Facebook pages for all of the newly consigned pieces. I’ve got my heart set on some great items, and tomorrow’s my big chance!
We’ve got limited time.
The opportunity to get 50% off everything in the store only lasts from 7am to 10am!
So here’s the schedule for tomorrow:
6:00 am: Wake up
6:30 am: Grab the girls and head to Newbury St.
6:50 am: Outside STA 176 Newbury and eat a quick, energizing breakfast (yogurt?)
7:00 am: STA spree!
7:55 am: Walk to STA 219 Newbury St.
8:00 am: Shopping spree at STA 219 Newbury
8:45 am: Starbucks break (crossing fingers for no line)
9:00 am: Spree at STA 324 Newbury St.
10:00 am: Celebratory wrap-up brunch with the girls
I’ll definitely be heading back to STA on Saturday morning for free mimosas and 30%-50% off.
Black Friday’s like our birthdays, it’s a weekend-long event.
As expected, I’ve got my eye on my wish list items at each store. While they might have already sold, I have faith that they’ll come in again. Hey it’s the holiday season … wishes do come true.
176 Newbury: Burberry scarves spotted, Michael Kors essential wristlet, and helloooo Louis
219 Newbury: Stunning holiday dresses, calling dibs! Burberry scarf second spotting, Milly cross body, and statement necklaces galore.
324 Newbury: I see you, Tory Burch flats. Cocktail rings, check! And a gorgeous Jcrew flower necklace.
I may more excited on Black Friday Eve than Christmas Eve … STA knows my style better than Santa anyways.
Three Styles, One Fashionable Thanksgiving
Nov 26th
Thanksgiving, the one holiday that is actually about food. If you’re anything like me, I don’t necessarily feel my most beautiful and put-together self when I’m stuffing my face for 24 hours. It’s hard to resist those comfy and stretchy yoga pants, but don’t give in! Here are three fabulous outfit inspirations to keep you looking fabulous (as usual) this Thanksgiving.
1. Cozy and Versatile
This outfit is great for all of the active ladies. Whether lounging with the family or running around with the kids, this outfit is comfortable but ready to go! Citizen jeans are the epitome of classic casual, and the Theory knit sweater is a subtle touch of cozy and confident. Tory Burch boots add a little glam, and the Burberry scarf ties the whole thing together for an unstoppable ensemble.
And wouldn’t you know, this Burberry quilted jacket from STA 324 Newbury St. goes perfectly when it’s time for the family football game.
2. Elegant and Feminine
Sometimes we celebrate Thanksgiving with a loved-one’s family instead of our own. But don’t let that frighten your holiday fashion sense! A feminine, chic outfit is appropriate for any Thanksgiving atmosphere. We love this blouse from Ralph Lauren, which you can dress down with Calvin Klein black skinny jeans. Then add your personality in the accessories! We added some sparkle with Rebecca Minkoff loafers and a Marc Jacobs bracelet.
These Prada silver jeweled flats from STA Armitage are a fabulous way to add some glam to your sophisticated ensembles. And If you’re a guest, the Chanel cross body from STA Haddonfield can carry all of your little necessities while you’re out!
3. Stylish, Yet Forgiving
Maybe you’re like me and love to spend Thanksgiving with a glass of wine in the kitchen with the women of the family. All I know is I don’t want to wear anything too restricting, especially as I’m nibbling all day! A dress is a great way to stay comfortable and fashionable. This Marc by Marc Jacobs short dress allows you to move freely around the house. Paired with black tights and Chanel boots, it screams bold and down to business. And we can never resist a good accessory, like this Michael Kors collar necklace.
And don’t forget a Michael Kors boyfriend watch from STA 176 Newbury St. is a mandatory accessory on Thanksgiving to keep track of all the madness!
Happy Thanksgiving fashioniSTAs!
Layers: How to Keep Warm Through the Breezy Fall Season
Nov 13th
Even though the leaves are changing colors and the weather is getting brisk, there is no reason to put away your summer take tops and dresses. All you have to do is layer. Here are some of my favorite layering methods of the Fall season:
The blazer: A blazer does not only have to be worn in the office…it is the perfect mix between classy and dreamy. Wearing a blazer over any outfit is a foolproof plan. Blazers are ideal if it’s too warm for a jacket but too chilly to wear a dress by itself. You can stay simple with a solid color or you can get more risky with it and go with a metallic, gold sequin blazer (like Whitney Port’s look below, one similar can be found here).
Tights under shorts: what are you to do when you didn’t get to wear your favorite pair of cut off jeans shorts as much as you would have liked? You can put tights under them! It’s a brilliant idea that allows you to wear your favorite summer clothes past September and still stay warm! Don this look during the day with opaque, colored tights and tweed shorts, or try it out at night with denim cut-offs and black tights (like Alexa Chung’s look below).
Scarf it Up: Wearing a scarf on the chilliest of the fall days is a guaranteed way to stay warm. My personal favorite is the infinity scarf, a huge trend that makes throwing one on in the morning a no-brainer. Whether you rock an infinity or stick with the original, scarves are perfect for this type of weather because you can wear them in so many different ways! (Seriously, there’s a whole website devoted to them.) The scarf look is made even better when worn under a leather or jean jacket, creating the perfect fall ensemble.

Gifts for the Graduate on Any Budget
Jun 15th
It’s the second week of June, school is out, and your schedule is most likely full of weekends away, barbecues, and graduation parties. While showing up and looking your best is usually enough, with graduation parties it can be tough to find the perfect gift. Here are four fabulous gift ideas for every budget.
1. The Inexpensive Yet Stylish
A colorful scarf (like this Lauren by Ralph Lauren http://bit.ly/MJwHbm) is a fun, personal gift for any grad. Whether she spends her summer celebrating, preparing for college, or job searching, the scarf will take her from dinner with the girls, to interviews, to the office. A scarf is a great way to add personality to any look without putting in a lot of effort, something every woman appreciates, no matter what her age.
2. The Moderately Stacked
Alex and Ani bracelets are not only the new version of the charm bracelet, but they have become some of the most popular and stylish stackable bangles for fashionistas. They are made completely out of recycled metals, and while helping the environment, the more you add to your collection, the better they look. Give your grad a set of bracelets with some personalized charms, like her initials, zodiac sign, or the “Path of Life” charm which is perfect to lead her into the next chapter of her life. And the best part? You can purchase one or an armful depending on your budget! www.alexandani.com
3. The Splurge
If your graduate is either going off to college or the office, a go-to carryall for her everyday needs is a must. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote is a classic and will bring her from one stage of her life into the next for years to come. You can also have the leather monogramed for a personal touch. Who wouldn’t love a little Louis? http://bit.ly/Lc6RkY
4. One Size Fits All Budgets
Lastly, every grad needs a new wardrobe to update her look for her new life in the “real world.” What’s better than a Second Time Around gift card to get her all the classics, staples, and on-trend pieces for the college girl or working girl’s closet? www.secondtimearound.net

St. Patrick’s Day How-To: A Dose of Green Done Right
Mar 16th
Green is in the air this weekend, and it’s only natural to want to get in on the festivities. Resist the urge to wear an oversized green bow-tie and a t-shirt that says “Kiss Me, I’m Irish.” Instead, try a few fashionable approaches to the holiday to ensure that you don’t wake up with a bad style hangover.
Minty Fresh
With Spring just around the color, saturated pastels are popping up everywhere. One of the biggest colors this spring is mint (not to be confused with Thin Mints), which also happens to be a killer choice to celebrate in this weekend. Instead of going with traditional kelly green, try a fresh spin with mint, either in a pair of colored denim (like from Current/Elliott), a sleeveless top (like this one from Rag & Bone), or a full mint dress (like from Diane von Furstenberg). Touches of mint were all over the Spring 2012 runway, from Carolina Herrera to DVF, and have been making they’re way into all aspects of street style. If you’re not comfortable trying it out in an ensemble, go with a mint manicure, pair of flats, scarf, sunglasses, or a bunch of stackable prasiolite or peridot-accented bangles or rings. Or you could even find items of clothing that have small mint touches, like this colorblock dress by Tibi (two trends, one stone!).
It’s All in the Details
Unless you moonlight as a leprechaun, head-to-toe green might be a no-go. However, using a few individual touches of green can help you have a put-together - but still festive - look. Now is the perfect time to break out that bright green handbag or pair of flats that you haven’t been wearing. Green is a tough color to go to, but luckily this spring is all about brights, and this is the perfect opportunity to break out of your muted shell! Red jeans have been lighting up the streets, but to get ahead of the trend a bit, go for a pair of green denim. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day and beyond!
If pants aren’t your thing, you can start by working green in with jewelry and accessories, and then when you’re feeling brave, you can move to bigger parts of your ensemble. Snap up a green dress, tank or skirt, and keep the rest of the outfit neutral for a classic look or go for colorblocking to bring on the bold. If you feel more comfortable with neutrals (black, white, camel, navy), you can work with different textures to achieve different looks. Go with simple knits for a minimalist vibe, or channel your inner urbanite with touches of leather - a huge trend for both spring and fall 2012. If you choose the colorblocking route, green goes great with all shades of blue - try a bright cobalt with a dark green for a great springtime look - as well as certain shades of yellow. Since neons are coming out in full-force, pairing a kelly green with a bright yellow is a surefire hit. But remember, for this holiday, pairing two shades of green together could come across as overkill.
Prints Charming
This is also a great time to work in some of the green-printed pieces you have sitting in your wardrobe. Whether it’s a green and white-printed wrap dress or a green polka-dotted blouse (like this Kate Spade option), St. Patrick’s Day is a safe occasion to try out a piece for the first time. Once you wear it out, you may be more comfortable working it into your current wardrobe rotation. (This holiday is also a great excuse to get another wear out of a piece.) Another great thing about wearing green prints is that it doesn’t look like you overdosed on the St. Patrick’s Day Kool-Aid. You’ll look classic and put-together, with just the right amount of holiday spirit.
Of course if you’re one of those girls who goes big or goes home, I won’t judge you for wearing a full sequined, green dress, as long as you channel Alice + Olivia’s Fall 2012 line rather than Poison Ivy from Batman.
